The charred remains of a seven-year-old boy have been found in a shallow grave in the Little Karoo.

The police received a tip-off which led to the discovery.

The body was burnt beyond recognition. DNA tests and an autopsy will be performed to determine the possible cause of death as well as the identity of the deceased.

A 72-hour activation plan has been mobilized to search for anyone linked to the incident. Police forensic experts are combing the scene for clues.
