A baby girl who was inside a bakkie that was hijacked in Khayelitsha over the weekend has been reunited with her parents.

The four-month-old baby was reported missing on Saturday when the bakkie was stolen.

Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk says the child was with her father who was delivering chicken at his uncle’s house with his white Isuzu bakkie. While the father was in the back of the vehicle, five unknown male suspects held the father and uncle at gunpoint and took off with their cellphones.

The distressed father tried to get a brick to break the window to get his child out but the suspects drove off.

The vehicle was later found abandoned in Makhaza with the child inside.

The motive behind the incident is believed to be robbery. No arrests have yet been made.
