Two learners, aged six and 15, are in hospital following this morning’s fatal vehicle crash on AZ Berman Drive, Mitchells Plain.
Ward Councillor, Solomon Philander visited the scene, and recounted images of chaos and trauma.
The 55-year-old driver of the bakkie in which the children were travelling has since been arrested.
The cause of the accident has yet to be confirmed.
The crash involved a bakkie, a Golden Arrow bus, and a minibus taxi.
The victims are aged between seven and 11 years old. Western Cape Education Department spokesperson, Bronagh Hammond, says that it is the responsibility of all to ensure safety on the roads.
According to Sub-Council 17 chairperson, Elton Jansen, five primary schools, and one high school have been impacted by this morning’s accident.
Meanwhile, the family of a 12-year-old girl is in mourning after she was killed when a minibus taxi knocked into her in Heideveld just after 8am.
Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide for both accidents.
