Gauteng Premier David Makhura has denounced the Nomzamo tavern massacre.

This, after 15 adult patrons were gunned down at the Mdlalose Tavern in Soweto in the early hours of this morning.

Makhura says police are ‘hot on the heels’ of those who committed the crime. In recent weeks, South Africa has been rocked by the deaths of the 21 teenagers at the infamous Enyobeni Tavern in the Eastern Cape.

However, Makhura reassured the public the Mdlalose establishment was legally operating. He has called for all illegal establishments to be shut down immediately.

In Pietermaritzburg, another four people were also killed, and eight others injured at a tavern.

Acting MEC for Community Safety in KZN, Jomo Sibiya says six bullet heads, one live round and 16 cartridges all from a 9mm pistol were discovered on scene at the Samkelisiwe Tavern in Sweetwaters.

The motive for these mass shootings is still unclear at this stage.

Now, President Cyril Ramaphosa has extended his condolences to the families of those who lost loved ones during the shooting at a Soweto Tavern.

The president says as a nation we cannot allow violent criminals to terrorise the public, regardless of where such incidents may occur.
