Criminals are becoming more brazen in their attacks on public facilities in Cape Town. At least five gunmen held up and robbed staff at the Nyanga Library.
The Friday robbery saw the personal belongings, including cell phones and cash being stolen. Desktop computers and a television set were also taken.
A week earlier two men posing as patients held at gunpoint security guards at Mzamomhle Clinic in Philippi. One of the suspects also tried to rob a person inside the clinic.
Both facilities remain shut as staff are traumatised. A situation that heavily impacts the community as they will now need to travel to other facilities for services. The City’s Mayco Member for Community Services and Health Councillor Patricia van der Ross has appealed to the public to stand up and protect these assets, by helping them bring the perpetrators to book. She says that someone, somewhere knows who they are.
