The murder of Palestinian journalist Shireen Abu Aqleh and the injuring of her colleague Ali Samoudi has yet again confirmed the bloody nature of the Israeli occupation.
The Al Jazeera journalist was shot dead by an Israeli occupation sniper while covering an attack on the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank. She was clearly identifiable with her press jacket and helmet. She was shot in the face while covering an Israeli attack on the Jenin refugee camp in the West Bank.
The occupation entity has been desperately trying to spin a story that resistance fighters were behind the gunning down of Abu Aqleh. However, the evidence on the ground confirms that it was Israeli occupation forces.
The media has been urged to be acutely aware of Zionist Israel’s propaganda aimed at trying to sanitise the gravity of its assassination of the Aljazeera journalist and the wounding of her colleague.
The Media Review Network (MRN) says this killing was meant to send a clear intimidatory message to journalists who counter the Zionist hasbara (propaganda). It has appealed to the South African National editors Forum (SANEF) and others to condemn this senseless attack on media freedom in occupied Palestine.
Hamas believes that the assassination of Shireen Abu Aqleh shows Israel’s campaign to silence any voice that exposes its crimes. He noted that Shireen, is not the first, and she will not be the last media person to be killed for using their camera, pen and sound to reveal the truth.
The Israeli occupation regime has history targeting journalists. Last year in the besieged Gaza Strip – Israeli warplanes bombarded a media building that housed both local and international media.
