Former Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter has been accused of failing South Africa and himself by publishing a tell-all book about his three-year tenure at Eskom.
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan made the assertion during his appearance before Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa).
The committee is in the process of probing de Ruyter’s damning allegations of corruption at the power utility. Gordhan expressed his shock at de Ruyter’s choice to go public in an eTV interview earlier this year while still being the head of the company.
He adds that the release of his book only added insult to injury. Despite criticing de Ruyter, Gordhan also acknowledged that de Ruyter did some good work on renewable energy, even though he had to act as a “lone ranger”.
