Government should engage communities on updates regarding the fulfillment of promises made. This is the assertion by ANC Secretary-General, Fikile Mbalula.
It follows President Cyril Ramaphosa’s promise to build a smart city in Lanseria near Johannesburg during his State of the Nation Address (SONA) back in 2020. President Ramaphosa had also promised high-speed trains between major cities to fast-track economic growth.
However, many of the president’s previous promises still have not materialized.
Addressing the media after the president Opening of Parliament Address (OPA) on Thursday, Mbalula criticized the state for its weakness where communication and updates on major projects are concerned.
He we went on to further add that the only thing government has been doing effectively is communicating post-Cabinet decisions – yet the society it serves requires cluster briefings.
