Amendments are needed to higher education funding models. That is the assertion by the Chairperson of the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC), Professor Bongani Majola.
He was speaking during a webinar in collaboration with the office of the Public Protector and the SAHRC. He explains that such amendments will ensure that students from poor backgrounds and those from the so-called ‘missing middle’ category won’t be disadvantaged.
Majola adds that statistics show that higher education funding was insufficient and that deserving students without a backup financial means continue to be excluded from the system.
