Lobby group AfriForum is not happy about the matric results not being published in the media.
The group has filed an urgent application in the North Gauteng High Court saying it wants the court to ensure that the matric class of 2021 is able to access their results on media platforms as previous years. It further welcomed the Department of Basic Education’s decision not to oppose the application.
The department has said it decided to stop publishing the National Senior Certificate results in public following the implementation of the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act. It says the dissemination of pupils’ personal information would be in contravention of this act.
Meanwhile, the department has called on matric learners to register on its websites to view their results when they become available. The matric results are expected to be released on Friday.
