African countries must assert their dominance in the global economy.
Treasurer-General of the ANC, Gwen Ramokgopa made the assertion during the ruling party’s gala dinner last night to welcome the BRICS dignitaries to South Africa.
This is the first time that the five emerging economies, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa are meeting since the Covid-19 pandemic. During the period of the pandemic, many African countries faced economic crises.
Ramokgopa says the continent should challenge the global perception that its status is sub-par. She adds that African nations shouldn’t enter BRICS as beggars or with the perception that it has nothing to offer.
Ramokgopa adds that BRICS must help the existing global governance structures in a bid to give Africa a seat at the table.
