South Africa has sufficient registered wholesalers to provide quality personal protective equipment (PPEs) but is being completely sidelined.
Speaking to Radio 786, spokesperson for the Black Pharmacists Association (BPA) Faizal Muhammad Ayub explained that due to the shortage of PPEs during the heart of the pandemic, the pharmaceutical and health industry saw an increase in individuals who were not qualified to sell health products importing them.
This comes as an investigation by Scorpio revealed that R2-billion had been paid to unlicensed vendors for vital goods during the Covid-19 pandemic. Less than 30 percent of the companies that supplied the nine provincial health departments with PPEs were in fact registered.
