Ebrahim hails from Pinelands High School in the Western Cape.

In a show of solidarity with Palestine, Ebrahim attended the awards ceremony donning a piece that had the black-and-white checkered design and the Palestinian flag.

Speaking to the Western Cape Education Department (WCED), Ebrahim said that it’s still unbelievable that he got named top achiever hailing from a public school.
