The truck driver who crashed into the Lower Church Street bridge on the N1 highway is set to appear in court on a charge of reckless and negligent driving.

The bridge has been closed since the incident on Friday. The truck has been impounded.

The City’s Mayco Member for Safety and Security JP Smith is hopeful that the court will take into consideration the infrastructure, economic, and emotional damage caused by one person.

It’s unclear when the bridge will reopen as the extent of damage is still being determined.
