The dam disaster continues for the Riverlands community near Malmesbury in the Western Cape.
Residents had to be evacuated again. This time due to the Water and Sanitation Department’s plan to slowly release water from the fourth dam not going as envisioned.
The Swartland Municipality says it had proposed that the necessary work on this dam be done in the summer during drier conditions. This after the situation had been stabilised and the risks mitigated after the collapse of three farm dams last week.
The municipality says their primary objective now is to secure the safety of all residents in the area and to make sure all of them have shelter for the coming night.
