If you engage in corruption, we will find you and we will pursue you until you are locked up. This was the assertion by Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber.
He was reacting to a former department official who was convicted for fraud. Judy Zuma was sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for being part of a syndicate which delivered passports to un-qualifying foreign nationals.
Zuma was slapped with an additional 24 years imprisonment after she pleaded guilty and was convicted of charges, including the contravention of the Immigration Act.
According to the Hawks, the syndicate helped foreign nationals from Pakistan, Bangladesh and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Zuma had processed 193 fraudulent documents, and was paid R4000 for each one issued.
Schreiber stressed that the new administration will cleanse the scourge of corruption from Home Affairs.
