Suspected Fast Guns gang leader arrested in Lavender Hill

An alleged gang leader has been arrested in Lavender Hill. The City’s Mayco member for safety and security Alderman JP Smith says Law Enforcement officers approached the man after receiving information about the sale of drugs in Dover Court.

They found mandrax tablets and cash in small denominations in his possession. Smith says upon further inquiries it was shown that he is the leader of the Fast Guns gang and is out on parole at the movement.

Smith says they have notified the Department of Correctional Services of the parole violation and hopes the parole is overturned and that his sentence is extended. Smith has criticised the criminal justice system saying it’s not working. He says it has become frustrating for officers to see those arrested by them back on the streets and adding to the gang violence.

He has called for change and capacitation within the police service and at the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA). He also says Correctional Services need urgent reform as those convicted of crime are simply recycled back into society with little or no signs of rehabilitation.
