A 40-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of City of Cape Town official Wendy Kloppers.
The suspect handed himself over to police following an investigation. He is expected to appear in the Cape Town Magistrate’s Court. Klopper was murdered more than four months ago at the Delft Symphony Way housing project.
It’s believed that she was gunned down in a case of mistaken identity. It’s alleged that her attackers who were likely linked to the construction mafia thought she was the woman who won the construction contract.
Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis has welcomed the arrest saying he hopes it’s the first step towards full justice for Wendy’s family and colleagues, and for the many unseen beneficiaries of the housing project impacted by violent disruptions.
He adds that the City’s R1-million reward for information leading to the prosecution of those behind the murder still stands. Hill-Lewis says they are certain that this single suspect never acted alone.
