The uMkhonto weSizwe Party is working to stop the first sitting of Parliament.

It is set to approach the Constitutional Court to prevent the swearing in of members of Parliament. They argue that there are many unresolved irregularities in relation to the recent general elections and have been calling for a rerun of the elections.

The party of former President Jacob Zuma however has yet to provide proof. On Friday, the party wrote to the Chief Justice and the Secretary to Parliament, asking for a delay in the parliamentary sitting indicating that it intends to challenge the validity of the 2024 election results.

In its maiden election MK won 58 seats, taking away votes from the ANC who for the first time failed to secure an outright majority. The ANC has been forced to look at alternatives and has concluded that it wants to establish what it calls a government of national unity (GNU).
