South Africa’s trade may be drastically impacted by a proposed US bill that seeks to review Washington’s relations with Pretoria. Independent political analyst, Dr Dale McKinley, notes that there was always going to be tension between the two countries over their respective foreign policies.
Some in the US took issue with South Africa taking the Israeli entity to the International Court of Justice. The bill accuses South Africa of being in support of Hamas, which the US considers a terrorist group instead of a liberation movement. It also cautions against South Africa’s relations with Russia, China, and Iran. But McKinley notes that if passed, the bill could spell some trouble for South Africa including in trade.
