Hamas is ready to commit to a ceasefire should the International Court of Justice (ICJ) rule in favour of South Africa’ provisional measures which includes ordering the Israeli occupation to stop its attacks on Gaza. The Palestinian resistance movement says it would commit to a ceasefire if the Israel enemy adheres to it.
It further states that it will release the Israeli prisoners of war if the occupation entity releases all Palestinian hostages. Hamas has also demanded an end the 18-year blockade on Gaza and the allowing in of much needed aid and reconstruction material.
The world court is set to rule on these requests at 2pm on Friday. South Africa brought a case of genocide against Israel. It wants interim injunctions. These include that all reasonable measures be taken to prevent the genocide of Palestinians, that the displaced in Gaza return to their homes, that they have access to humanitarian assistance and the evidence of genocide is preserved.
An order from the ICJ is legally binding and cannot be appealed. But the court has no power to enforce it. The Zionist Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has already hinted that he is likely to act with impunity, a long-time practice of the occupation entity to disregard international law. An ICJ ruling against Israel would increase political pressure on the settler colonial entity.
