At least two people has been found dead after a fire tore through the Silvertown informal settlement in Khayelitsha. The blaze which was reported around 9pm on Sunday has left scores of families homeless. It’s estimated that it destroyed more than 100 structures.

The City’s Fire and Rescue Service says the inferno was extinguished just before 3am on Monday. The cause of the fire is still unclear at this stage and the scene has been handed over to police. Aid organisation Gift of the Giver has set up base to assist the affected families for the next few days.
