It’s alleged that the hostage situation at the Gold One mine in Springs, is due to members of the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union demanding representation at the mine. Around 540 mine workers are reportedly being denied from coming to ground.

The mine’s spokesperson, Jon Hericourt says that the Amcu members had cut off all communication, and there have been some injuries. Amcu’s general secretary Jeffrey Mphahlele, says that he cannot confirm a hostage situation, and that 90% of Gold One’s 1 870 employees were in fact Amcu members.
