Despite claiming to represent South Africa’s Muslim community, the Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) acts on its own without consulting with its so-called constituents.
This is the assertion of social activist, Madiny Darries.
He was speaking after court papers filed by the MJC’s president had done the rounds.
In the application, Shaykh Irafaan Abrahams seeks to halt the Annual General Meeting that was scheduled for September 23.
He claimed that the early meeting was meant to unseat him.
But Darries says that this points to a greater concern that there is no consultation, and that the MJC is failing in its claimed responsibility to represent the best interests of the Muslim community.
