Golden Arrow Bus Services and Metrorail have indicated that they will work to fill the void left by the minibus taxi strike in Cape Town.

The bus service spokesperson, Bronwen Dyke-Beyer says they hope to operate until all passengers have been assisted. It adds that its on high alert and working with law enforcement.

In Nyanga, Golden Arrow has moved its operations to the local police station as a precautionary measure.

Metrorail’s spokesperson, Zino Mihi says they will do their utmost to transport every commuter at their station. She says the taxi council, Santaco had come through for the rail service when it had challenges.

Santaco announced this afternoon that it would embark on an immediate stay away that will run until August 9th.

Taxi drivers are unhappy with the impounding of their vehicles and the City of Cape Town’s traffic by-laws as they believe they are being targeted. But the City maintains that it will not treat the taxi industry differently to any other road user.
