A unilateral truce has been declared in Sudan amid the Muslim holiday of Eid al Adha or Feast of Sacrifice.

Sudan’s paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) made the announcing saying the truce will be in place as of today and Wednesday.

The development comes as the RSF has seemingly gained the upper hand in its fight against the North African country’s military. The RSF has seized the Central Reserve Police headquarters in southern Khartoum. It also seized dozens of armoured vehicles and pickup trucks, consolidating its position in southern Khartoum where several important military camps are situated.

The North African country has been the scene of intense fighting between the army and the rival RSF since mid-April over a power struggle between the army chief General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his former deputy, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
