Forensic detectives have been deployed to Macassar as the community deals with an increase in criminal activity.
Macassar Community Policing Forum’s Public Relations Officer, Russel Williams says the recent discovery of four bodies in the space of a week has increased the community’s fears that they could be the next victims.
However, the Western Cape Police Services’ spokesperson Malcom Potjie says that their investigators have yet to conclude that criminals are taking advantage of the extended power cuts.
He says that the extra police officers and detectives deployed to Macassar are there in a supporting role. But the community says that there needs to be a permanent solution, as the Macassar precinct is under-resourced.
