An Indian businessman that is believed to have been lured to South Africa by a kidnapping syndicate has been rescued in Gauteng.
The suspects apparently posed as businessmen. The man was taken just after landing at OR Tambo International Airport on Friday. The suspects demanded a ransom from his family in India.
Four suspects were arrested in Fordsburg on Tuesday.
According to the national police spokespersons Brigadier Athlenda Mathe the suspects were found in possession of the victim’s watch and driver’s license. The multidisciplinary team investigating the case confiscated four cellphones including the one used to communicate with the victim’s family, sim cards and a firearm. A substantial amount of money was also seized. It’s believed the money was ransom payments.
The suspects are expected to appear in the Kempton Park Magistrate’s Court on charges of kidnapping and extortion.
