The death toll from the devastating Boksburg gas explosion has increased to 40.

The Gauteng Health Department has expressed its disappointment in the lack of accountability being taken for the deadly blast. Among the deceased include healthcare workers.

Health MEC Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko says the facts surrounding the explosion failed to have an element of negligence which resulted in the deaths.

The driver of the gas tanker worked for a company called Infinite Transport, survived the blast and was arrested. However the case was dropped due to insufficient evidence.

The MEC has demanded that the company take full responsibility for the blast.
