Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter has opened a case of attempted murder following an attempt on his life.
On December 13th – a day after he tendered his resignation, de Ruyter was allegedly poisoned at Eskom’s offices in Sunninghill.
According to News24, doctors found high levels of cyanide – a quick-acting and potentially deadly chemical in de Ruyter’s blood.
It’s understood that the outgoing CEO became ill after drinking a cup of coffee. He soon started vomiting, struggled to walk, and then collapsed at Eskom’s offices.
De Ruyter has previously voiced his frustration on how his role as head of the power utility started to feel impossible, citing lack of support for his vision and slammed government members’ public attacks on his leadership.
