There’s been more arrests at Eskom as the utility tries to crackdown on theft of key resources.

Two security guards, who were employed by a company contracted to protect the Port Rex power station in East London were nabbed yesterday for allegedly stealing almost 6 000 litres of diesel.

The fuel is worth just under R 146 000.

Eskom spokesperson, Sikonathi Mantshantsha says that their investigations revealed that the security guards had permitted a vehicle to collect stolen diesel during night shifts.

They were also allegedly paid for helping the criminals.

Investigations continue into finding other suspects linked to this theft.

Earlier in November, a truck driver was arrested at the utility’s Camden power station for allegedly tampering with coal.

This as a contractor at the power station was also arrested for being linked to an incident of sabotage.

South Africa is enduring its longest stint of load shedding.
