The style of policing in South Africa hasn’t adapted for at least a decade, which is adding to the country’s crime levels.
Conflict resolution expert, Geoffrey Mamputa, says that the sophistication of some criminals, and the rate at which crimes are taking place in the country prove that the SAPS can no longer be taking a reactionary approach.
Mamputa was speaking after the second quarter crime stats were released yesterday, showing that South Africans are exposed to violent crimes daily. The figures for the July to September period of this year, show that most categories of crime including murder, rape and sexual assault were significantly higher.
