The Imam Abdullah Haron Inquest is providing a catharsis for the family. Partner at law firm, Webber Wentzel, Odette Geldenhys, says that it’s been a difficult time for all, as they have had to sit through the testimonies of experts and victims of the Apartheid regime. The Apartheid-era inquest into the Imam’s death claimed that he had died after falling down some stairs, but the assessment of the pathologists during the reopened inquest, shows that it was due to sustained physical assault. Geldenhys says that the family can only hope for Judge Daniel Thulare to find the now deceased culprits guilty of murdering the Imam, and for him to determine what punishment they should have been given.
