Seven people were hanged in Kuwait.

This is the first time since 2017 that people were sentenced to death in a mass execution. The deceased included four Kuwaitis, a Pakistani, a Syrian and an Ethiopian. Two of the seven inmates were women.

According to state-run news agency KUNA, the inmates were convicted of premeditated murder and other charges.

Prominent human rights group Amnesty International called for the executions to be stopped, saying it violates the right to life and the ultimate cruel, inhumane and degrading punishment.

Kuwait introduced the death penalty in the mid-1960s. Since then, dozens of people mainly those convicted of murder or drug trafficking have been executed.
