The pre-trial hearing of the alleged Parliament arsonist will only take place next year.
The National Prosecuting Authority’s spokesperson, Eric Ntabazalila says that while the state is ready to move on the case, Zandile Mafe’s defence has been granted more time to consult with their client.
Mafe has undergone psychological evaluations which may influence the direction the case takes. The National Assembly chamber and sections of the Old Assembly building have been destroyed in a fire that ripped through the national key point this January.
Mafe was arrested soon after.
He has however insisted that he is innocent. The pre-trial hearing will take place on January 27.
