Eskom will finally conduct repairs on the exploded Scottsdene substation, which caused the greater Kraaifontein area to be without electricity since September 26.

The utility has urged residents to switch off all electrical appliances as of 8am tomorrow, which is when the repairs will be conducted.

This will protect the appliances from an inrush of current, that could also trip the electricity once the supply is restored.

Residents should then wait 30min after the substation is repaired before switching their stoves, geysers, and pool pumps back on.

Eskom says that if the emergency planned outage does not take place tomorrow, operations will be conducted on Monday from 8am to 6pm.

Residents have been outraged over the outages, which have affected health care facilities and other public service buildings.

But there is concern that illegal connections had placed further strain on the Scottsdene substation, causing the explosion.
