The public has been urged to be vocal and constructive during the consultation process for the relocation of informal settlers on the Central Line.

Deputy Mayor, Eddie Andrews says that this will help decision makers as they try to find land suitable for relocation.

Parts of the Central train line have become home to hundreds of people.

But as the passenger rail agency, Prasa,  seeks to reopen this key public transport route, they have been at pains to relocate this community.

Andrews says that as of last week, neither Prasa nor the Housing Development Agency had submitted a formal application for land to be made available in the City of Cape Town.

They are also in negotiation with private property owners.

Deputy Mayor, Eddie Andrews was speaking as Mitchells Plain residents have already voiced their opposition to a new settlement being set up near Weltevreden Drive in Ward 43.

This parcel of land is being eyed for the relocation of the Central Line residents.

Speaking to Radio 786, chairperson of the New Woodlands Ratepayers Association, Shaheen van Nelson contends that there are two informal settlements in that area that need full services.

This could result in protest action by Siqalo and Samora Machel residents if a new settlement is allocated.
