To rebuild Parliament following the devastating fire in January will cost just over R1.2-billion.

Public Works and Infrastructure Minister Patricia de Lille says the final report on the fire which destroyed parts of National Assembly has been handed over to the Speaker and the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA).

De Lille says the R1.2-billion is merely an estimated cost by the Development Agency.

Meanwhile, Zandile Mafe is still standing trial in the Cape Town High Court for allegedly starting the fire at Parliament.

He faces several charges, including housebreaking with intent to commit terrorism, and two counts of arson and theft. The matter has been postponed to the 2nd of September for another pre-trial hearing.
