MPs have accused the South African Reserve Bank of protecting President Cyril Ramaphosa in the alleged theft at his Phala Phala farm in 2020.

Members of the Standing Committee on Finance are demanding that the reserve bank provide an update on whether Ramaphosa violated any exchange control measures.

Reserve Bank governor Lesetja Kganyago was briefing the committee on its annual reports.

The EFF’s Deputy President Floyd Shivambu urged the governor to play his part in ensuring that the president accounts for his wrongdoings.

Meanwhile, the African Transformation Movement (ATM) has criticised the country’s institutions of law for protecting President Cyril Ramaphosa.

President of the ATM Vuyolwethu Zungula says opposition parties in Parliament have united to enforce Ramaphosa to be held accountable for the alleged theft at his game farm.

“When some ANC MPs tried to enforce accountability in Parliament, they were suspended. However, opposition parties are not at the mercy of Ramaphosa,” said Zungula.

The EFF, ACDP, ATM, UDM and COPE hosted a press briefing detailing their strategy plan earlier today.
