The ANC has admitted that some of its senior leaders implicated in the State Capture Commission had helped the Guptas weaken the state.

This was revealed by the head of the ANC’s state capture task team, Jeff Radebe.

He presented the party’s National Executive Committee documents on corruption and state capture.

Radebe says that while state capture was not described as such at the time, there was a faction within the party that had contested both the existence of the phenomenon and the use of the term.

The first warning signs of this problem came to light when the Waterkloof Airforce Base was opened for the personal use of the Gupta wedding party in April 2013.

Meanwhile, the ANC’s Integrity Commission will be the first step in the party holding members implicated in the State Capture Report accountable.

Radebe says that the ANC had singled out at least 200 of its own members who were implicated in the State Capture Commission Report.

This is the interim figure, as his team is still reading the extensive report into state level corruption.

Thereafter, more people will likely be identified to appear before its integrity commission for disciplinary action.

The ANC will leave prosecution of those implicated to law enforcement agencies.
