Cabinet is still in the process of deciding whether to go ahead with the controversial R22-million flag project.
It comes after opposition parties have criticised Sports, Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa for being ‘out of touch with reality’.
In response to a written question by the DA’s shadow minister for sports, arts and culture Tshepo Mhlongo, Mthethwa said that a final decision is yet to be made.
Mthethwa also noted that public consultation on the multi-million rand project isn’t necessary; a move that has also come under fire.
The monument flag is expected to be erected at Freedom Park in Tshwane should Cabinet give the go-ahead.
Since the announcement of the controversial project, South Africans and opposition parties have voiced their frustration saying the funds could be put to better use.
