The critical skills shortage at Eskom could soon be addressed.

Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan is looking to trade union Solidarity for help.

The union had offered to mobilise critical skills in May. In a letter to Solidarity’s managing director, Dirk Hermann, Minister Gordhan noted that Eskom requires power station engineers.

This includes mechanical, nuclear, electrical, system and maintenance skills, as well as senior artisans and plant operators for coal and nuclear power stations.

The country has endured about a month of power cuts, which has taken an extensive knock on the economy, and jobs.
