Opposition parties have slammed Police Minister Bheki Cele’s conduct at a community engagement in Gugulethu this week.
This, after the Minister Cele shouted at lobby group Action Society’s leader Ian Cameron to ‘Shut up and get out’ after being called out for failing in his ministerial duties.
Cameron sparked criticism after he told Cele that he is failing to deploy enough police to crime hotspot areas in Cape Town, and further accused Cele of politicing crime.
Opposition parties say the reaction of the police minister was an attempt to avoid accountability.
Meanwhile, Director for Action Society Ian Cameron has told Radio 786 that he is disappointed in Police Minister Bheki Cele’s response to his question, and that he believes nothing will change if Cele remains in his position.
Cameron was speaking after he was forcibly removed from the venue, after being involved in a heated debate with the minister.
Action Society will be lodging a complaint with the Independent Police Investigative Directorate to probe officers’ misconduct when they forcefully removed Cameron from the meeting.
