Government has many plans to address the country’s fuel crisis, but many of these are not yet in operation.
Department of Energy’s Director of Fuel Pricing Mechanism, Robert Maake says that gas as a fuel source is being hindered by red-tape, and environmental groups opposing the exploration practices.
Maake says that gas is one way to reduce South Africa’s reliance on international fuel supply.
The petrol price has increased by R 2.37 per litre.
Maake contends that a review of the department’s regulatory accounting system, which is used to calculate the industry margins, is underway. This is anticipated to help with the country’s sale and procurement of fuel.
