The death toll from the devastating earthquake in Afghanistan has risen to 950.

The 6.1 magnitude quake struck the Afghan city of Khost, near the Pakistan border. More than 600 people have been injured in the quake. Most of the deaths have been reported in the Paktika province.

Helicopters and rescue teams have been deployed to the affected areas to tend to the wounded and fly in food and medical supplies.

The death toll is likely to rise as information trickles in from remote mountain villages.

The country’s recovery from this natural disaster will be drastically affected by the US withholding Afghanistan’s funds. Washington claims that this is due to the Taliban’s takeover of the country.
