The Manenberg community has threatened to close the schools in the area.

It follows sporadic shootings near primary schools in Manenberg yesterday.

Images of children laying on the floor of their classrooms for fear of being hit by a stray bullet has caused an outcry from across the Cape Flats.

Many communities have had similar experiences as gang violence is on the increase.

MEC for Community Safety and Police Oversight, Reagen Allen met with community representatives from Heideveld and Manenberg this morning.

They demanded that all spheres of law enforcement be deployed to the areas to ensure that the community remains safe from gang violence.

Earlier this week, a 16-year-old boy was wounded by a stray bullet in Manenberg.

He was having his hair cut when he was struck.

According to local police the bullet penetrated a kitchen window.
