Activists allege that the change to the Social Relief of Distress Grant application process is meant to reduce the number of beneficiaries.
The grant was initiated during the Covid-19 National State of Disaster and has now been factored into the Social Assistance Act.

The group says that some of the new requirements, which include the personal details of spouses and dependents are not readily available.
Many families lost their breadwinners or jobs during the Covid-19 pandemic.
