KwaZulu-Natal has been declared a disaster area following days of heavy downpours.

The declaration will assist in freeing up funds for rescue and other operations.

About 60 people have lost their lives in the disaster with a number of people still missing.

The classification comes as President Cyril Ramaphosa is visiting the province. The president has pledged that there will be an effective response to the disaster.
