Hundreds of Capetonians that have been protected from evictions due to the Covid-19 regulations, could now find themselves without a home.
This is plaguing several communities, and civil society organisations.
The National State of Disaster has been lifted, and legal rights group, Ndifuna Ukhwazi says that residents must educate themselves about their rights.
The group’s attorney, Jonty Cogger, says that the City of Cape Town had already flouted the lockdown regulations when it demolished homes in an informal settlement in Khayelitsha.
People living Green Point and District Six were also dispossessed of their belongings for setting up homes on public land.
