In a bid to cushion the blow that April’s fuel price hike will bring, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana says government plans on putting measures in place to at least temporarily ease the financial strain on motorists for April and May.
The minister noted that while he can’t reveal the details on these measures, due to its sensitive discussions with the energy department.
“The most immediate source of interim relief would be to suspend the fuel levy, like other countries did to mitigate the high cost of fuel,” said minister Godongwana.
Come April, the price of petrol is set to reach an all-time high with a R2 increase, taking the cost to R24 a litre.
